Courageous
women focus of card issue

Trading
cards depicting renowned American women went into free distribution at
high schools nation wide in March publicizing a college scholarship
program funded by a deodorant manufacturer.
Arrid
Total Women of Yesterday and Today includes contemporary government
leaders such as Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and North
Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole among five current female social
leaders. Chicago's Hull House founder Jane Addams and the American
Red Cross' first president Clara Barton represent two of the set's five
historical figures. An additional three cards will be produced
honoring Arrid's 2003 scholarship winners.
This
is the second year Arrid and its marketing firm Coyne have produced a Total
Women issue. According to spokesperson Deborah Kelco, the
2003 cards included Condoleeza Rice among the five Today
selections. Eleanor Roosevelt, Susan B. Anthony and 1930s aviator
Amelia Earhart were selected for the Yesterday portion of the
set.
"The
pool of honorees is researched and then selected by the Women's Museum
in conjunction with the Arrid Total brand," Kelco said.
"The Total Women of Yesterday are those who have had the
greatest achievements on women's advancement in society. Total
Women of Today are recognized as modern day pioneers serving as an
inspiration to strive for greater independence and success."
Three
thousand sets have been manufactured with about 300 earmarked for the
Women's Museum in Dallas. Three scholarships totaling $18,000 will
be awarded by Arrid through its women's advancement program.
